Mission: Impossible – Fallout Shows Tom Cruise Breaking His Ankle

Footage from the moment Tom Cruise broke his ankle while filming for Mission: Impossible – Fallout has made it into the final cut of the movie.

Cruise shattered his ankle during the filming of a stunt which saw his character jump from one rooftop to another at high speed. However, he accidentally misjudged the jump, with the impact of hitting the side of the building causing his ankle to shatter.

Cruise said he “instantly” understood he had sustained a major injury, but director Christopher McQuarrie claims: “Tom knew he had to finish the scene as we weren’t coming back to the location – so he had to get the shot.”

Co-star Simon Pegg said, “That was the best take, the one where he injured his ankle.”

Cruise revealed that after sustaining the injury he checked into rehab for physical therapy to recover. “I went right into rehab. About 10 hours a day, 12 hours, seven days a week because six weeks later I had to be on set and twelve weeks later I had to be sprinting again,” he told fans at Cinemacon. “Doctors said they weren’t sure whether I’d be sprinting in nine months, let alone that time. I was like, ‘Okay, I gotta figure this out and I gotta figure it out fast.’ ”
