Crew member is Killed After Fall on Set of Tom Hanks Movie
A crewmember has passed away after falling two stories from a building on the set of the Mister Rogers biopic.
James Emswiller, 61, fell from the balcony on Thursday during a break in filming. Witness accounts say Emswiller, a sound crew member, was "alone on the balcony taking a cigarette break when he may have suffered a medical emergency resulting in his fall from the balcony."
Officers and an on-set medic attempted life-saving measures on Emswiller before transporting him to hospital in critical condition, police reported. However, on Friday morning, Emswiller passed away from his injuries.
Sony Pictures, set to release the film, stated, "This is a devastating tragedy and the studio is investigating the matter. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's loved ones, friends and colleagues."
The film, currently untitled, stars Tom Hanks as iconic children's television star Mister Rogers, and is scheduled for release next October.
