Actor is injured in on-stage accident at award-winning musical
A performance of the Stephen Sondheim musical Assassins at the Sydney Opera House went wrong recently when performer Bobby Fox, playing Charles J Guiteau, took a heavy fall on stage, causing the show to be suspended.
In character as David Wilkes Booth, lead actor David Campbell explained the suspension by announcing to the audience that there had been an accident. After a delay of eight to nine minutes, the show’s director Dean Bryant announced on stage that Fox was en route to the hospital and would be replaced for the remainder of the night’s performance by associate producer Spencer Bignell.
A spokesperson for Assassins confirmed that Fox has sustained an injury to his foot due to the fall, and that the role of Guiteau will be performed by Ryan Gonzalez while Fox recovers.
The award-winning production of Assassins will be continuing at the Sydney Opera House until July.
